How to read the contract tracking page.
When I list a player contract it will look like the following.
PLAYER..............SALARY............YRS RM/OPT RM
Cliff Lee................$39.....................(2/3)
YRS RM.....YEARS REMAINING AFTER CURRENT YEAR
OPT RM... OPTIONS LEFT AFTER CURRENT YEAR
HOW A 3 YEAR CONTRACT WILL PLAY OUT.
I won Lee in the auction for $39 and set his contract for 3 years.
Year....PLAYER..............SALARY............YRS RM/OPT RM
2013....Cliff Lee................$39.....................(2/3)
2014....Cliff Lee................$39.....................(1/3)
2015....Cliff Lee................$39.....................(0/3)
BECOMES A RESTRICTED FREE AGENT
2016.......OPTION #1 Drop Lee or keep him for
Cliff Lee................$44.....................(0/2)
2017........OPTION #2 Drop Lee or keep him for
Cliff Lee................$49.....................(0/1)
2018.........OPTION #3 Drop Lee or keep him for
Cliff Lee................$54.....................(0/0)
BECOMES A UNRESTRICTED FREE AGENT AND RETURN TO DRAFT.
Each option is a one year commitment. Options will have to be pick up by Feb. 1 or player becomes a free agent(I reserve the right to allow a manager who has just joined the league an extention past the Feb. 1 date).
Actual Rules
After completion of auction draft each team will designate players as 1yr, 2yr, or 3yr contracts.
- Price stays the same for length of contract
- After contract ends, you may keep the player for up to 3 years adding $5 to their salary each year. (after the third extension the player becomes an unrestricted free agent.
- If a player is dropped with year(s) remaining on contract, team will lose half the value of the contract (rounding up) from their budget (i.e. 2 yrs left on contract for $35, team will lose $18 for next two years.
Every in season pick up of a free agent is a 1 year contract for $1.
Every in season pick up of a previously owned player is a 1 year contract for the value of the player.
If a player retires with years left on their contract or goes to another league(ex. Plays in Japan), their salary comes off the books.
